AUBL Miami and the Entire Baseball World Celebrate the Life of a Great ManUpdated Tuesday February 19, 2019 by AUBL Miami.
On January 30, 2019, the world lost a great man as long time Coral Gables Athletics' captain, Albert Jardines lost his battle to cancer. Albert was only 45 and leaves behind his wife Ileana and two daughters Emily and Sofia. Albert joined the A's in 2001 and has been at the core of their success since serving as the A's long time catcher and captain. He played the game with his heart on his sleeves while also demonstrating a capacity to connect positively with everyone he met. He was beloved by every player who has ever donned an Athletics jersey as he would typically be the first one to welcome new players to the team and make them feel at home. He would also connect with players on other teams and umpires like no one else could. He has been described as a giant of a man and someone who can never be forgotten. And the A's will never forget their captain as his jersey will hang at every game the A's ever play and the connection he made will forever live on in our hearts. May you rest in peace Albert....Peace and Love!
